Aspiration for sustainable development, integration of electric energy markets of Russia, other CIS countries, and the European Union determine the increase of the importance of ecological aspects of the Company's operations for reaching its strategic goals. The priority tasks of the leadership within the scope of environmental policy of Inter RAO comprise reduction of the negative impact of production assets on the environment, including lowering emissions, discharges of wastewaters, rational use of water resources by thermal power plants, and reducing production waste.

The environmental impact management is based on the international standard ISO 14001: 2015. The environmental management system of PJSC Inter RAO was certified according to the international standard ISO 14001: 2004 for the first time in 2014; the certification was performed according to the new version of international standard ISO 14001: 2015 in 2017. In 2019, the compliance of the environmental management system with the international standard ISO 14001: 2015 was confirmed in 2018, according to the results of the supervisory audit conducted by DQS GmbH. Since 2019, all generating assets of the Group have been certified for compliance with the international standard ISO 14001: 2015.
